Week 5 Iowa Hawkeyes bowl projection round up – Hawkeyes Wire

With the season flying by and already a quarter of the way done, the Iowa Hawkeyes have started to find some offensive life to pair with their shutdown defense and top-notch special teams. The result has Iowa sitting with a 3-1 record overall and a 1-0 Big Ten conference record after a strong showing against Rutgers.
The Hawkeyes begin the meat of their schedule now as they welcome the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines into town this Saturday for the FOX “Big Noon Kickoff” game. With some high profile matchups still on the horizon, it is too early to predict everything as things are still working themselves out for Iowa.
The offense is seemingly beginning to get their legs more and more each week in the run game and downfield passing game. If the offense can continue to come along, these projections could be rather underestimated. Nonetheless, let’s take a look at a bowl projection roundup for the Hawkeyes after the first quarter of the season.

Projections: Iowa vs Kansas State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl
Projection: Iowa vs. Texas Tech in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl
ESPN analysts, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach, did not have much disagreement in where they are placing the Hawkeyes this bowl season.
Each of them have Iowa playing in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 9:15 p.m. CT at Chase Field, the home of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks.
Bonagura has the Hawkeyes taking on Kansas State. Schlabach sees Iowa suiting up against Texas Tech.

Projection: No bowl game
In a rather bold projection, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm leaves the Hawkeyes out of any bowl game this season. He must really be holding onto the early season showings while failing to recognize the offensive improvements and defensive efforts.
This would mark the first time since 2012 that Iowa missed a bowl game if this projection holds true. That is a big if, though, and one that will likely go away as the season continues on.
