UNC is set to start the conference portion of its football schedule.
The Tar Heels (3-1, 0-0) host Virginia Tech (2-2, 1-0) in their ACC opener at Kenan Memorial Stadium on Saturday (3:30 p.m., ACC Network).
The last time these teams met in Chapel Hill was in 2020 as quarterback Sam Howell and the UNC offense compiled 656 yards for the second-highest total ever posted against the Hokies.
Now, Drake Maye is the Heels’ play-caller and he ranks third in the nation in total offense with an average of 353.2 yards per game. On the other side of the ball, however, UNC has struggled, ranking 126th nationally in team defense while the Hokies rank 10th.
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series against UNC 25-13-6 and the Hokies won last season’s matchup 17-10.
