Ryan Sessegnon does not deserve the praise he is getting from some sections of the Tottenham fanbase.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Sessegnon, 22, played the full 90 minutes as Tottenham beat Fulham 2-1 last weekend (3 September).
He has faced stiff competition since the summer arrival of Ivan Perisic, 33, from Inter Milan.
The veteran defender returned to the starting XI against Marseille on Wednesday (7 September) and provided an assist as Spurs won 2-0.
“I have seen mass praise on social media for Sessegnon,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Personally, I don’t think he was that great against Fulham. I have seen some people say that in that game he turned in some sort of fantastic performance.
“Maybe my view would be different if the late Richarlison disallowed goal had been allowed to stand because he would have got an assist.
“He did a lot of running and there was some good link-up play with Harry on a few occasions. I just think Perisic is such an improvement on him.
“I’m looking forward to seeing more of Perisic, especially after his performance against Marseille.”
Perisic has made seven total appearances for Spurs this season, providing three assists.
Sessegnon has made 38 total appearances for the North London side since joining from Fulham in August 2019.
