Alan Hutton has backed Tottenham to beat off competition from Chelsea and Newcastle United to sign James Maddison.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender said that although Newcastle would “blow most teams out of the water” when it comes to wages, Maddison would choose the London club for “football reasons”.
On 29 September, sources told this site that the Leicester City midfielder is keen on joining a Champions League club next year and considers the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a potential destination.
Spurs also face competition from the Magpies who failed to land the 25-year-old in the summer despite tabling offers worth up to £50million.
Speaking on The Chelsea 365 Podcast (14 October), journalist Ben Jacobs said Chelsea are also interested in the attacking midfielder.
The Foxes midfielder’s current deal at the King Power stadium is set to run out in 2024.

When asked if Maddison would be likely to choose the Lilywhites over other Premier League clubs, Hutton told Football Insider: “At this moment in time, total football, you would like to think so.
“Newcastle will have something to say to that when it comes to wages and structure and things like that. They can probably blow most teams out of the water.
“If it comes down to just football reasons, I think someone like Maddison would fit in to the Spurs way. He works hard, he has got that creative spark.
“That is possibly something Tottenham miss in games from that number ten role. He could fit in to the Conte way and it could be something that Maddison could really flourish under.“
