Liverpool fear they will be priced out of signing Jude Bellingham if he has a brilliant World Cup, sources have told Football Insider.
The Merseysiders have registered their interest in the midfield sensation, 19, and held preliminary talks with intermediaries about a potential deal.
But the growing interest among the world’s elite clubs in Bellingham, as well as his dazzling form, means Borussia Dortmund will be able to demand what one well-placed source calls a “huge fee” if they decide to sell next year.
Liverpool fear the German club’s valuation of Bellingham will soar beyond the £100million mark even if he does not sign a contract extension.
The England star’s current deal runs until the summer of 2025.
Bellingham is emerging as one of the most coveted players in world football and has further enhanced his reputation for club and country this season.

There is a stampede of interest in the midfielder, 19, from clubs led by Liverpool and including Premier League rivals Man City, Chelsea and Man United as well as the leading teams on the Continent.
Bellingham has been identified by the Liverpool recruitment team as the dynamic central midfielder capture capable of spearheading the team to the next level.
Extensive talks have been held behind the scenes with the player’s camp and Liverpool are confident they have laid the groundwork to a potential deal next year.
But the Merseysiders recognise that Bellingham’s excellence and stellar form further complicates what was already an extremely complex transfer.
Bellingham had an outstanding 2021-22 campaign, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists from 44 appearances in all competitions.
He has carried that form into the new season operating in a more advanced role.
The Englishman’s 18 matches in all competitions this term have yielded a hugely impressive eight goals and two assists.
