Conor Gallagher, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz are all handed starts, coming into the side for Cesar Azpilicueta,Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount, who all drop to the bench.

It is expected that the Blues will operate with a back three of Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella in front of Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Pulisic and Raheem Sterling possibly acting as wing-backs to begin with.

Jorginho, who wears the captain’s armband, lines up in central midfield with Mateo Kovacic, with Gallagher potentially adding an attacking threat from the centre in a slightly more advanced role.

Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang complete the line-up in the forward roles.

Chelsea: Kepa, Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Cucurella, Pulisic, Jorginho (c), Kovacic, Sterling, Gallagher, Havertz, Aubameyang.

Subs: Bettinelli, Mendy, Azpilicueta, Chilwell, Loftus-Cheek, Zakaria, Chukwuemeka, Mount, Ziyech, Broja.

Salzburg line up as follows:
RB Salzburg: Kohn, Dedic, Bernado, Pavlovic, Wober, Gouma-Douath, Seiwald, Sucic, Kjaergaard, Adamu, Okafor.
Subs: Mantl, Walke, Van Der Brempt, Piatkowski, Baidoo, Kameri, Ulmer, Simic, Diarra, Sesko.
Chelsea are without long-term absentees N’Golo Kante, Reece James and Wesley Fofana in Austria.
Kalidou Koulibaly is also ruled out, as confirmed by Graham Potter on the eve of the game.
‘It’s not too serious,’ reported Potter.
‘This game was too soon for him. We’re hoping to get him on the grass Wednesday or Thursday, but he’s obviously not available for tomorrow night.’
One player who starts is Marc Cucurella, despite being taken off before half-time against Man United, on the hour at Brentford and during the interval away to Aston Villa. Potter was asked about the left-back’s situation at his pre-match press conference.
‘He’s had a couple of issues, a bit of illness, he’s been on antibiotics, but he’s a lot better,’ Potter said.
‘Manchester United was purely tactical, a need to get an extra body in midfield. He was the one to come out probably because of all the things that have happened to him. A bit unlucky there.
‘He’s good, he’s ready to fight for the team, he’s ready to play. He’s a resilient character, he’s a really good person.
‘Sometimes when you move clubs it goes really well, and sometimes it can be a little bit of an up-and-down period. Marc’s a little bit up and down but he’s a top player and he will show his quality.’
