Paul Robinson has told Newcastle United to wrap Callum Wilson “in cotton wool” because of his injury record.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Eddie Howe “cannot afford to lose” the 30-year-old after Alexander Isak’s setback.
Isak has been sidelined since the international break with a thigh injury.
Speaking to club media (18 October), Eddie Howe revealed the 23-year-old has suffered a setback and is unlikely to return to the side before the World Cup.
Wilson has started Newcastle’s last four Premier League fixtures in the absence of Isak.
A start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Sunday would be Wilson’s third in eight days.

When asked by Football Insider if Wilson’s workload was a concern for the Magpies, Robinson said: “It is a real blow to have Isak out for that long.
“Newcastle have to look after Wilson because of his injury record.
“They cannot play him three times in a week. They will have to play Chris Wood up there for a game or two unless they are going to put Joelinton back there. But he is playing so well in midfield though I would not do that.
“They simply cannot afford to lose Callum Wilson as well. They have to wrap him in cotton wool. It is vitally important they do everything they can to keep him fit.”
In other news, a medical expert has claimed Newcastle manager Eddie Howe may be playing ‘PR’ games with latest update on Allan Saint-Maximin’s fitness.
