Oregon State Beavers at Utah Utes, Oct. 1, 2022
The Oregon State Beavers struggled in the red zone, lost Chance Nolan to a neck strain and gave No. 12 Utah extra opportunities with four interceptions in a 42-16 loss Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.
The Utes capitalized on the Beavers’ mistakes, scoring 21 points off turnovers. Utah’s Clark Phillips snared three interceptions, taking one back for a touchdown midway through the first quarter. That touchdown broke a 7-7 tie, and the Utes (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) would pull away from there.
Oregon State (3-2, 0-2) did narrow things to 21-16 early in the third quarter, but then Utah scored 21 consecutive points to put the Beavers away.

What’s at stake
If the Beavers want to be a major player for a Pac-12 title game chase, they probably need a win today. Of Utah’s last 14 Pac-12 games, the Utes have lost once. So, no problem. Good news, the one loss came to Oregon State. Not only is Utah looking to avenge last year’s loss in Corvallis, the Utes may also see today as a bit of a must win. Up next for Utah the next two weeks is UCLA and USC. Oregon State is a double-digit underdog, but not without a chance if the Beavers effectively run the ball and play defense as they did a week ago against USC.
