Noel Whelan has claimed Trevoh Chalobah has a fresh “opportunity” to fight for his Chelsea future after the arrival of Graham Potter.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old could yet leave on a loan-to-buy basis in January if his involvement doesn’t increase.
Speaking on his YouTube channel (24 September), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed “conversations” are underway about a potential January exit for Chalobah.
Trevoh Chalobah could leave Chelsea in January. He’s still hoping to play more – and that’s why Chalobah could leave if nothing changes. 🔵 #CFC

RB Leipzig, Inter and AC Milan were interested in the summer but then Chelsea decided to keep him.

He also claimed there is “no space” for the former England Under-21 international in the Blues squad despite him wanting to be an “important player” at Stamford Bridge.
Chalobah has made just one appearance this term – a 90-minute outing against Leicester as Kalidou Koulibaly was suspended.
Whelan insisted Chelsea should be “worried” about the centre-back potentially leaving the club.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think with Potter coming in, he’ll be looking at everyone very closely.
“Everyone has got another chance, and the manager will be working with his players over this international break.
“He’ll have found out a lot about players like Chalobah.
“He’s an exceptional defender, he proved that last season with his performances.
“He’s someone I’d be worried about letting go if I was Chelseahe’s young, experienced in the Premier League, consistent.
“He’ll be working hard to prove his worth, and I’m sure Potter won’t be too rash in making a decision on letting him go in January.
“It’s an opportunity for him to push and earn a place. He needs to be ready to come in and not think about anything other than playing for Chelsea.
“If January comes and he’s still no closer to playing, then you can ask the question of maybe being let go on loan with a view to a permanent move.”
