Noel Whelan has insisted Ilkay Gundogan must prolong his Man City career by “another season” as Galatasaray prepare to move for the midfielder.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed players like the 31-year-old are “hard to come by”.
According to The Sun‘s Martin Blackburn (20 October), Gundogan is a “shock target” for Turkish giants Galatasaray with his contract up at the end of this season.
The report claims Serie A club Juventus are also monitoring his situation.
Gundogan has captained Man City in each of his 10 starts this season – as well as adding two goals and one assist.
The 62-cap Germany international has won four Premier League titles during his six-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Whelan hailed Gundogan’s influence behind the scenes at Man City as well as on the pitch.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “The way he plays, he makes it look easy at times.
“He’s very fit, very professional, and can dictate a game from start to finish.
“I’d be very reluctant to lose a player like Gundogan. He’s got such control on a game, and he’ll have real control in the dressing room as well.
“Players like him are hard to come by. Once you have players like that at your club, you’ve got to squeeze all of the juice you possibly can out of them.
“I definitely believe he’s got another season at the top level because of the way he plays.
“He makes the ball do the work and he’s got real intelligence.”
