Neal Brown updates injuries to Charles Woods, other starters – 247Sports

West Virginia made it through spring practice, summer workouts and fall camp about as healthily as they have in years. But all that good luck caught up to them rather early once the season began, as star cornerback Charles Woods went out in the first half of the season opener against Pitt. He did not suit up for Week Two and it sounds as if he will not be around this week…. and maybe even further.

Charles Woods, he’ll be out again this week,” Head Coach Neal Brown said during his weekly press conference. “Have a better feel maybe later in the week kinda what he looks like long-term wise.”

Another player lost in the season opener was starting right guard Jordan White, who missed this past week, although Brown says he will be back for Towson. “We anticipate him being full go.”

Linebacker Tirek Austin-Cave “will be able to play this week” as well after missing the last week or so of preseason practice, as well as the first two weeks of the season. Defensive lineman Jalen Thornton also missed the tail end of the preseason, but he will not be returning to action just yet.

“Jalen will miss this game,” said Brown. “Hopefully get him back next Thursday. We’ll know more after how he handles the next two days.”

Finally…. there was more bad news in the secondary as another starter’s status was up in the air.

“[Aubrey] Burks is going to be questionable for [Towson],” said Brown. “…he left in the second quarter last week. So, we’ll see if he’s going to be ready to play.”
