MANCHESTER UNITED boss Erik Ten Hag is monitoring Milan Skriniar's contractual situation at Inter according to reports.
The defender's deal at San Siro is set to expire at the end of the season but Ten Hag could face competition from a number of clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Graeme Souness has slammed United for the way they have handled the Cristiano Ronaldo saga.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Souness said: "I think this is a problem Manchester United have made for themselves. They have shot themselves in the foot.
"I would personally use him [Ronaldo] very differently. I still think he's got something to offer.
If Ronaldo departs from Old Trafford, reports are suggesting that the Red Devils could turn to Lautaro Martinez again instead and reportedly, contact has already been made.

Ten Hag Ronaldo replacement wishlist
Amid speculation which suggests Cristiano Ronaldo will soon depart Manchester United, simultaneous reports have surfaced regarding who Erik ten Hag wants to replenish his attacking options.
A three-man shortlist is said to have been drawn up by the Dutchman.
The first of these is Lille and Canada forward Jonathan David, who has been a player linked with a Premier League move in recent seasons.
Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick is the second name on the list, followed by Lyon's Moussa Dembele.
PICTURED: Ronaldo arrives for showdown talks
Cristiano Ronaldo has been pictured arriving at Manchester United's Carrington training base today.
Following his muting and subsequent banishment from the first team, he is expected to undergo more showdown talks with Erik ten Hag.
The striker was also fined £720,000 for his refusal to come on against Tottenham.
His latest display of discontent has once again sparked rumours of his exit, with Napoli and Chelsea the two names most hotly tipped to turn their interest into a tangible offer.
Brahim has 'anti-Man Utd' clause
Manchester United transfer target Brahim Diaz is said to have a clause in his Real Madrid contract that makes a move to Old Trafford undesirable.
The attacking midfielder moved to Los Blancos from Manchester City in 2019, and Gazetta Dello Sport understand that an 'anti-Man Utd' aspect was included in the deal.
The Italian publication believe that if Real were to sell the Spaniard on to United then City would be owed a whopping 40% of any transfer fee.
Brahim is currently on loan at AC Milan for a third consecutive season, and scored twice in Saturday's 4-1 win over Monza.
Napoli link won't go away
Cristiano Ronaldo is open to another Italian job – after being snubbed by a string of Premier League clubs, writes Anthony Chapman.
SunSport understands Napoli remain 'interested' in the legendary striker, who is heading for an Old Trafford exit following his behaviour against Spurs last week.
Sources close to the Portuguese star say his advisors have sounded out Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle and Arsenal.
But the 37-year-old is seen by United’s rivals as too risky.
And a return to Italy is now on the cards after Ronnie won two titles in three years at Juventus.
A source told SunSport: “Chelsea were interested in Ronaldo over the summer, but he is no longer on their radar.
“Arsenal and Newcastle realise the quality he would bring in helping them to achieve their ambitions.
“But both clubs worry about the wider impact his arrival could have on the clubs.
“The most likely destination now is Italy. Napoli were interested in Ronaldo over the summer and are still keen."
Red Devils keen on Frimpong
Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Old Trafford club have been busy scouting the former Celtic right-back this season.
However, the Red Devils are likely to face stiff competition for the 21-year-old Dutchman with a number of European clubs understood to be keen.
Frimpong still has time to run on his Leverkusen contract, having signed a deal until 2025 when he moved to the Bundesliga from Parkhead in January 2021.
Varane hopeful for World Cup
There are slim hopes that Raphael Varane may be fit enough to play for France at next month's World Cup.
The Manchester United centre-back left the pitch in tears after suffering a hamstring injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Chelsea.
Initial fears felt he was certain to miss out on Qatar 2022 but scans have shown that the strain is not as bad as first believed.
While the 29-year-old will not feature for the Red Devils again before the Premier League season breaks for the tournament, he now hopes to be available for selection in Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus squad.
Souness slams United's handling of Ronaldo
Graeme Souness has hit out at Erik ten Hag and Man Utd regarding the way they have handled the Cristiano Ronaldo saga.
He told talkSPORT: "In five years, Ten Hag will be away from the club and nobody will talk about him and his spell as Manchester United ever again, but Ronaldo will always be remembered as arguably the greatest to have ever kicked a football.
"Does that give Ronaldo a pass? It does, in my opinion.
"I think this is a problem Manchester United have made for themselves. They have shot themselves in the foot.
"I would personally use him very differently. I still think he's got something to offer.
"Manchester United look to have turned a corner with their performances on the pitch, they are going in the right direction, but they have caused themselves a problem that was totally unnecessary.
"I think the manager, the football club and the other people making football decisions have got this one wrong."
Skriniar on the move
Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is out of contract at the end of this season and may not sign a new deal at the San Siro.
Man Utd are one of a number of clubs tracking the 27-year-old.
The likes of PSG and Spurs have previously shown an interest and Erik ten Hag is now supposedly monitoring him.
Man Utd handed awful fixture congestion
Man Utd and Liverpool have been handed the tightest festive schedules of the Premier League’s big guns.

And top-four hopefuls United and Liverpool will have 55 hours less time between matches than Spurs following the Prem’s Christmas and New Year fixtures announcement.

Scholes makes huge Klopp accusation
Paul Scholes reckons Jurgen Klopp has “fallen out” with Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
It comes after the Manchester United legend sensed “there is something not quite right there”.
The former England midfielder told Premier League Productions: “He [Klopp] has Jordan Henderson on the bench, he should be playing.
“He is the leader of the team. He’s the captain and the one, the Casemiro-type of role, and he gets everyone ticking around.
“He seems to have fallen out with him or carrying an injury. There is something not quite right there.”
Neville compares Ronaldo situation to himself
Gary Neville has admitted he suffered like Cristiano Ronaldo during the final years of his Manchester United career.

Neville has urged Ronaldo to stop "whining", he also sympathises with his current position.
The former England right-back, 47, made just 36 Prem appearances during his final four seasons with United.
Speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, he said: "There were moments in my career where I thought, ‘Rafael’s gone in, John O’Shea’s gone in, Wes Brown’s gone in'.
"I watched Brown play a full season and win a Champions League.
"[Brown] He’s a great lad, brilliant player, and I was delighted for him, [but] of course I wanted to be in the team, of course I wanted to be out there and be captain, but I wasn’t."
Neville added: "I hope he leaves next week so they (Ronaldo and Ten Hag) can shake hands.
"I hope he leaves next week and says to the club thank you very much and the club says to him thank you very much and then he goes and finds a new club because I'd like to see him go and play until he's 42 scoring a thousand goals…
"I know it sounds crazy but you can be a better team without players who are just goalscorers, and that's happened time and time again."

Cristiano Ronaldo’s place in this week’s Manchester United Europa League team is hanging by a thread.

And unless he shows some contrition and agrees to abide by Ten Hag’s rules then he will be continue to be exiled going into Thursday’s clash with FC Sheriff.
All the players were given Monday off, including Ronaldo, so any talks between him and the manager have been delayed so far.

Chelsea like United target Osimhen
Chelse scouts were reportedly impressed by Victor Osimhen's starring performance against Roma – but face a big fee to land him.
The striker scored a wonderful winner for Napoli against Jose Mourinho's side to keep the Italian side three points clear at the top.
A huge fee of at least £87million is believed to be the price that might tempt Napoli to sell.
But Osimhen is also a target of Manchester United and the Red Devils were linked with the star in the summer.

But Pietersen took exception to the use of his image, commenting on the post: "Please take my picture down?
“I don’t want an association with a club that’s managed by a clown who is completely disrespecting the greatest footballer of our time.
“[Cristiano Ronaldo] is the BOSS! That clown who no one will ever remember needs a wake-up!”
The club duly obliged, but not before Pietersen's demand was liked and screenshotted by thousands of fans.

Teammate Tyrell Malacia has been named in the 39-man list and is expected to survive the chopping down of numbers and be on the plane to Qatar.
Today is Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney's birthday – he turns 37.
