AUBURN, Alabama—Coming off the second College World Series appearance for the Auburn baseball program in the last three seasons, coach Butch Thompson’s Tigers will play the second of two exhibition scrimmages on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. when rival Alabama comes to Plainsman Park for a 12-inning game. Both teams are expected to bat 10 players in an effort to get more opportunities for the roster while Auburn could throw as many as nine different pitchers on the night against the Crimson Tide.
The Tigers are expected to start sophomore Chase Allsup with junior college left-hander Tanner Bauman up next followed by RHP Joseph Gonzalez and true freshman LHP Drew Nelson the fourth of the early rotation for the Tigers. All four are guys who are in the mix to be weekend starters for the Tigers in the spring.
They are expected to throw an inning each before turning things over to junior Carson Swilling and junior college transfer RHP Will Cannon in the middle innings. On the back end, Auburn is expected to again use transfer LHP Tommy Vail and RHP Chase Isbell in late relief/closer roles.
In the field, one of the most contested battles for Auburn has been at third base where the Tigers have to replace Blake Rambusch off last year’s team. Veteran Bryson Ware is working at the position, but is also seeing time at second base where junior college transfer Caden Green could be the favorite to win the starting job. At third base, true freshman Gavin Miller from Pennsylvania has had a strong fall, but West Georgia transfer Brody Wortham has come on strong following a successful career there. Originally from Wedowee, Wortham had a big night in Auburn’s 12-11 win over Louisiana Tech two weeks ago.

Auburn lineup:
1. RF Bobby Peirce

3. C Nate LaRue
4. 1b Cooper McMurray
5. LF Justin Kirby
6. SS Cole Foster
7. DH Cam Hill
