Callum Lang scored his first goal of the season in Wigan Athletic’s win against Huddersfield Town
Callum Lang scored a late winner for Wigan Athletic as Huddersfield Town’s poor start to the Championship season continued.
The Latics took the lead after Lang was fouled by Luke Mbete, with Will Keane finding the net from the spot.
Yuta Nakayama almost equalised for Huddersfield after the break when he forced Jamie Jones into a diving save from a free-kick.
Tom Lees levelled soon after and Jordan Rhodes hit the bar as Huddersfield rallied but Lang slotted home from inside the box to win it.
The result moves Wigan up to eighth in the table while Huddersfield remain 23rd having lost their fourth league match in five games.
The Terriers had won just three times in their past 12 league meetings with Wigan and they trailed at the break following Keane’s penalty, for which Mbete was booked for his foul in the build-up.
Jack Rudoni came close to sending Huddersfield level when he half-volleyed wide just before half-time.
Just before Lees equalised for the hosts, play was briefly stopped as he was treated for a head injury sustained following a corner.
He tucked home from close range soon after as he was cleared to play on, but he hosts were not level for long as Lang struck just six minutes later to win it.
