India vs South Africa 1st ODI Highlights: India suffered a nine-run loss to South Africa in the rain-curtailed first ODI here on Thursday. Invited to bat, South Africa posted 249 for 4, riding on fifties from David Miller (75 not out) and Heinrich Klaasen (74 not out) and Quinton de Kock’s 48 after the match was reduced to a 40-over-a-side affair due to wet outfield.
In reply, India slipped to 51 for 4 in 17.4 overs but Sanju Samson took the chase deep with a 63-ball 86 not out but it was not enough as they ended at 240 for 8. While Samson was the top-scorer for the hosts, Shreyas Iyer hit 50 off 37 balls. Shardul Thakur (33 off 31 balls) also played some lusty blows but Lungi Ngidi (3/52) took two wickets in the 38th over to stop India in their tracks. Kasigo Rabada (2/36) also took two wickets.
Among the Indian bowlers, Shardul Thakur took two South African wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav got one each.
Last over and Shamsi to bowl this one. India need 30 from 6 runs. Sanju in strike. And it’s a wide to start. And the first ball is dumped over midwicket for a six!!! He can’t, can he? Again short and that’s raced to the boundary!! What a pull!!! Te next ball is hit straight and that finds the boundary as well!!! Shamsi in a world of pressure now. 15 required from 2 now. And another four!! All over. SA win by 9 runs
South Africa complete a win in Lucknow despite a late fightback from India 🙌🏻#INDvSA | Scorecard:
Penultimate over of the innings now. Rabada to bowl. 2 dots to start as Avesh swipes and misses. Great effort in the field as Avesh takes 2 runs. Not sure why they have run 2 though. India need Sanju on strike. Another dot follows. And Avesh is dismissed. Good catch for Bavuma. IND 215/8 after 38.5 overs
Kuldeep Yadav chips and that has found the palms of Bavuma. That’s 2 wickets in 2 balls for Ngidi. India rocked again. IND 211/7 after 37.4 overs
What a catch from Lord Booma 🔥❤️

The 38th over now. Ngidi to bowl and the first ball is pulled for a four!! Sanju going ballistic here. And Shardul Thakur is gone. Huge breakthrough for the Proteas. IND 211/6 after 37.3 overs
Sanju ended the last over with 2 boundaries. Can he guide India to victory? And that’s over mid on and a four. Shardul this time. Next one is cut away and Samson comes in to strike. One more single. And again!! Another boundary for Shardul. The next ball is sent straight over the bowler’s head for another four. IND 205/5 after 37 overs
The 36th over now and Sanju Samson is just a couple of runs from his 50. Shamsi in to bowl. And that’s 50 for Sanju samson. Excellent knock, peppered with some magnificent strikes. IND 180/5 after 35.2 overs
Second ODI fifty from Sanju Samson 👏🔥#INDvsSA #Cricket
The 33rd over now and samson has broken free. Parnell’s second ball is clubbed for a four and the 4th ball gets te same treatment. IND 164/5 after 33 overs
Shamsi in to bowl the 32nd over. India still need a bit of work from the batters. Four runs from the first 3 balls, including a wide. The Men in Blue need boundaries at this juncture. Huge appeal for LBW but South Africa have no reviews left. IND 154/5 after 32 overs
Ngidi with the crucial breakthrough for South Africa. Shreyas Iyer was being stifled by dots so he tries to break the shackles but ends up holing out to Rabada. IND 118/5 after 26.4 overs

We are on to the 26th over now and the Iyer-Samson pair has given India a bit of stability. Maharaj  in to bowl this one and thec 3rd ball is smashed for a four by Iyer. And that’s 50 for Iyer. IND 118/4 after 26 overs
12th ODI fifty for Shreyas Iyer 👏

He is fighting hard for India in the middle.#INDvsSA #Cricket
Iyer and Samson are taking it to the South Africa bowlers now with boundaries coming at regular intervals. 3 fours from this over as India relieve some pressure. IND 90/4 after 21 overs
And another. Keshav Maharaj strikes this time as the ball kisses Ishan Kishan’s gloves and it’s taken by Malan in the slips. India in a fix now. IND 51/4 after 17.4 overs
Oh well done. What quick hands by QDK. That was a difficult stumping but he pulls it off. Ruturaj missed the flight of the ball, comes forward and gone. IND 48/3 after 16.4 overs
Gaikwad with a four to start the over right after the drinks break. Ngidi does not do much wrong here. It was just a superb shot. Kishan latches on to the fourth ball and sends it to the boundary. Run out chance but needed a direct hit. Gaikwad survives. IND 45/2 after 15 overs
Ngidi and Maharaj are keeping it tight at the moment to follow up that all dominating Rabada-Parnell spell. Kishan and Gaikwad still finding their feet against the Proteas bowling attack. Good test for the duo against a GOOD pace attack. India 30/2 after 12 overs.
Just as Kuldeep Yadav did, Keshav Maharaj has found turn on this wicket. Good first over for him (3 runs conceded). Kishan and Gaikwad clearly not in a hurry here, but sooner rather than later something will have to give in. Especially with Kishan. India, 24/2 after 10 overs.
India finish at 18/2 after eight overs. Ishan Kishan (9 off 12) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (1 off 13) in the middle. Both Parnell and Rabada have brilliant with the ball so far and it looks like captain Temba Bavuma wants more of it. Rabada into his fifth over with the field restrictions being lifted.
South Africa look on top here. First runs for India after 25 deliveries. Dhawan was played on earlier in the over. Ishan Kishan gets off the mark after squeezing a gap through the point region. India, 12/2 after six overs.

Wayne Parnell cramps Dhawan on the off stump and the batter can only edge it onto his stumps

Parnell follows a ‘no run’ (Marnus Labuschagne looks curious) over with another no run over. India under a bit of pump having lost Gill early on, Dhawan plays it safe against Parnell in the fourth over. The left armer has found movement in both directions in both his overs. India are 8/1 after four overs.
First wicket for SA courtesy Kagiso Rabada. Gill gets an inside edge to crash onto the leg stump. India are 8/1 after three overs.
