Giovanni van Bronckhorst hopes to have Leon King available for Rangers' trip to Napoli after he had to be subbed off due to illness.
The 18-year-old was withdrawn at half-time of the 1-1 draw with Livingston with James Sands coming in to replace him at centre back. With Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Filip Helander already injured options are limited and so King's withdrawal was a concern.
However, van Bronckhorst hopes to have the defender available for Wednesday's Champions League clash in Italy. He revealed that King was suffering from illness, while winger Rabbi Matondo suffered a back injury and that was the reason for him being subbed off too.
The Gers boss said: “He had to come off because he was feeling a little bit sick and nauseous.
"So that was why we brought James in. Rabbi fell on his back so he couldn’t move so that’s why we took him off as well.”
Rangers have no points in their Champions League group with two games remaining so will be looking to pick something up from one of the,
Van Bronckhorst is under pressure after a poor run and sees this is a good opportunity to shift the tide.
“It’s a big game against a really good opponent, at the moment one of the best teams in Europe," he added, "They are the leaders in Serie A and strong but it’s also a big opportunity for us in this big game on Wednesday.
"We need to get something out of the game to have a slight chance of going further in Europe.
“But it’s going to be difficult. First of all my focus is to pick the right team and start in the right manner. We have to do everything we can to get a good result.”
