Georgia football: Kenny McIntosh injury update from Kirby Smart for Missouri game – 247Sports

  • September 27, 2022

Georgia came out of its third non-conference game of the year with a 39-22 home win over Kent State, but a closer-than-expected matchup led to the Dawgs playing its starters well into the fourth quarter. That led to some worry when senior running back Kenny McIntosh hobbled off the field after a five-yard run in the red zone and went to the injury tent with eight minutes left in the game and did not return to action. Kirby Smart provided an update on Monday when talking to reporters.
“He had the same thigh bruise that he already had, got kind of hit on that same spot,” Smart said. “But feels like he will be fine. He was fine after the game. He was fine yesterday. We might limit him some today, but I feel good about Kenny being able to go.”
Following the game, Smart said the injury did not appear serious.
“He had a thigh contusion going into the game,” Smart said. “We think he’s going to be fine.”
McIntosh clearly tweaked that injury on the carry. Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards would get two touches each on the plays following McIntosh’s run, getting no gain, three yards, a 1-yard completion, and a one-yard run on fourth down to get into the end zone for the final score of the game.
Georgia ran the ball 41 times for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the win, with McIntosh gaining 44 yards on nine carries. Edwards led all running backs with 12 runs for 73 yards, while Milton had nine runs for 41 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. Freshman Branson Robinson had three runs for 10 yards. Sophomore tight end Brock Bowers actually led the team with 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on two runs. McIntosh added six catches for 35 yards. McIntosh has 25 carries for 97 yards this season and needs 150 rushing yards to break 1,000 yards for his career.
The Dawgs overcame three turnovers and giving up a first down on a fake punt to remain undefeated on the season and they will now prepare for Missouri on the road.
