Football news LIVE: Mwepu forced to RETIRE, Spurs in talks with Google over stadium naming rights, Diaz… – The US Sun

  • October 11, 2022

KYLIAN MBAPPE has "already signed" a secret deal with Real Madrid, according to blockbuster reports.
According to former player and current pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft, the France international is heading to Real after the 2022 World Cup either in January or the summer.
Fjortoft also claimed that the 23-year-old has already signed a secret deal with Los Blancos, who have been keeping tabs since last year.
He tweeted: "…Like I have said for a long time…after the World Cup Mbappe will join Real Madrid either in the first or the second transfer- window.
"My tip is that that deal is already signed and locked up someway."
Elsewhere, Liverpool winger Luis Diaz will be out of action until after the World Cup after picking up a knee injury in the loss to Arsenal at the weekend.
Meanwhile, midfielder Enock Mwepu has been forced to retire due to a health condition.
Mwepu, 24, unfortunately fell ill during the most recent international break.

Gunners can put pressure on city, says Winterburn
Nigel Winterburn hopes Arsenal are still in the mix as the World Cup begins in November, writes Joshua Jones with the exclusive.
The Highbury hero, who won three league titles, told SunSport: “It would be a huge disappointment if Arsenal finished outside the top four, with the start that they’ve had.
“At the start of the season, I said that top four is what Arsenal need and they also needed a big run, if not two big runs in the cup competitions.
“From what they’ve done so far in the league, they’ve set themselves up beautifully.
“League-wise, I know it’s early and we can get carried away but the way that they’ve played, I would expect them to be inside the top four at the end of the season.
“Everybody still thinks that Manchester City are the team to beat, especially with their squad depth too.
“With Erling Haaland in their team, they have a different dimension again this season with the goals he’s scoring.
“If we [Arsenal] are not top of the league when we stop for the World Cup, I’d hope that we’re very close behind and that would be a sensational start to the season.
“If Arsenal can keep this form going, then I certainly believe that they can put some pressure on City. But we don’t know if Arsenal can keep it going.
“They had a poor start last season, then they had a great run and when they set themselves up to finish the season off, it fell apart.
Mikel Arteta has to be wary of that but from what I’m seeing, and with the atmosphere inside the stadium, this is a different Arsenal this season.”
EXCLUSIVE – Arsenal must learn from previous slumps
Nigel Winterburn believes Arsenal must learn from their previous collapses to challenge Manchester City this season.
But they are already reaping the rewards of adding two new experienced stars who have injected a “winning mentality” into the squad.
Mikel Arteta’s side have made a stunning start to the season by winning eight of their first nine matches – including against top-four rivals Tottenham and Liverpool in their last two.
And with almost a quarter of the season played, they sit top of the table – a point clear of favourites City
But it did not take long for rival fans to highlight Arsenal’s 2004-05 and 2007-08 seasons – the only two times in Premier League history a team has started with 25 points from 27 but NOT lifted the title
Now Winterburn, 58, is hoping the Gunners stars can learn from teams of yesteryear – plus their own painful crumble to miss out on Champions League qualification last season – to go all the way this time around.

Rooney makes Keane's top three
Keane's trio of picks for best-ever Premier League stars was less controversial.
He chose former Old Trafford team-mates Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, plus Arsenal's record scorer Thierry Henry.
Asked for his top three, he told Sky Sports: "Maradona would have to be up there, Ronaldo and I'd probably say Zidane for me.
"He has to be up there. I thought he was amazing. I was lucky enough to play against him – brilliant player, nasty, scored a goal, won the big prizes. It's hard to beat that."
Keane left out Ryan Giggs and Alan Shearer from his list of finest English top-flight aces.
He said: "Looking at players in the Premier League – Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry.
"They're the three I thought were excellent."
No Messi in Keane's top three of all-time
Roy Keane has landed a blow on Lionel Messi that's as fierce as one of his crunching tackles.
The Manchester United legend omitted seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi from his top three of all-time greats.
MaradonaCristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane made Keane's list.

Could Liverpool be in the mix for Mbappe?
PSG are willing to let Mbappe go – BUT on the condition that he doesn't join Real due to the two club's uneasy relationship.
That is why Mbappe's most likely way out of Paris would be if he joined Liverpool.
However, the Frenchman will be in Madrid on Wednesday to attend a a bullfight at the city’s famous Las Ventas arena, according to Cadena COPE.
The centre-forward will be joined by team-mates Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas as they will all have a day off after tonight's Champions League clash with Benfica.
The ex-Monaco star came close to leaving the Parisians in the summer on a free transfer until he snubbed Real and signed a mega-deal worth £650,000-a-week at Parc des Princes.
Mbappe 'already signed' with Real Madrid, claims Fjortoft
PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe has "already signed" a secret deal with Real Madrid, claim sensational reports.
This comes amid claims suggesting Mbappe, 23, is "fed up" and wants to leave PSG as soon as possible with the relationship between both parties being "completely broken".
The star striker is said to feel "betrayed" following a series of "unfeasible" promises he says were made to him by the club amid rumours suggesting he has also fallen out with team-mate Neymar.

‘Where it started’ vs ‘How it’s STILL going’
David Beckham shared a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo by showing a very young Lisbon starlet!
The former England star posted a throwback snap of a curly-haired kid whose own career has surpassed expectations.
He’s also one of the few players that 115-cap midfielder Beckham looked up to on the pitch.
The Portugal hero, 37, came off the bench on Sunday to hit his 700th club goal.
That helped the Red Devils sink Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park and go fifth.
Rangers not good enough for Liverpool, says Barnes
Ex Liverpool midfielder John Barnes was pretty scathing when he was predicting tomorrow evening's champions league clash between his old side and Rangers.
He spoke to BonusCodeBets and explained that the Glasgow side simply "aren't strong enough" to match Jurgen Klopp's team.
The ex-England star reckons the Reds will be fine at Ibrox, despite their recent poor form.
Barnes said: "I think Liverpool will win, but Rangers aren't strong enough.
"It's hard when the Scottish teams compete against the English teams because the quality of players differ. I expect Liverpool to win the game.
"I think Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fine playing against Rangers. I don't worry about him playing against the vast majority of teams.
"Man City may look at his defensive qualities but going forward, I don't think he'll struggle with what Rangers have to offer. "
More on the investigation
The English football chiefs launched an investigation into the altercation after it was included in Oliver's match report and will then decide if disciplinary action is required.
They have spoken to the Brazilian defender as part of their probe while it is understood Henderson has voiced his side of events, too.
The FA has so far declined to give any further guidance since confirming it was “aware of an incident that took place” in the game and that, after dialogue with the officials and clubs, it would “review the details of the incident”.
The fact that Oliver included the incident in his report but did not take any action on the field suggests he did not witness any of the allegations put forward.
Therefore, the FA want eye-witness reports before deciding if any action is required.
But the additional insight from an external professional may be helpful in determining the chain of events.
The FA could also ask PGMOL for the recording from Oliver’s microphone, in case anything of importance was picked up.
Neither Arteta nor Klopp commented on the incident after the Gunners' dramatic 3-2 win.
What happened in the clash between Arsenal and Liverpool?
Referee Michael Oliver halted the resumption of play for Arsenal’s winning penalty to speak to managers Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp on the touchline.
The official informed both bosses he would be formally reporting the allegations made to him on the pitch.
That followed a flare-up between Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and Gabriel.
And now it is being reported by Sky Sports that the FA is considering using the services of a specialist speech expert to figure out exactly what was said and get to the bottom of the row.
However, SunSport understands they would only explore that avenue if the accounts from the two players are diametrically opposed.
FA to hire lip reader
The FA could hire a LIP READER to help them work out what was said in the spat between Jordan Henderson and Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Liverpool captain and Arsenal centre-back clashed during Sunday’s Premier League game at the Emirates after Thiago fouled Gabriel Jesus.
United watch Rangers youngster King
Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Rangers wonderkid Leon King, reports suggest.
King, 18, has been turning heads with some impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership and Champions League.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United are among many clubs keeping tabs on the centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.
The Red Devils are facing competition from Newcastle as well as Leeds for the Scotland Under-17 international.
King has already amassed 10 appearances across all competitions this season with the Gers.
The 18-year-old made a good impression last week when he started against Liverpool at Anfield.
King's contract runs out in 2024 and his suitors are looking to take advantage of that major opportunity.
The defender joined Rangers' academy as a child where he developed into a highly-rated centre-back.
Ron and Messi to join forces?
Fans are dreaming of Cristiano Ronaldo finally teaming up with Lionel Messi as Kylian Mbappe eyes a PSG exit.
Manchester United's unsettled icon Ronaldo, 37, and PSG attacker Messi, 35, have been the duelling GOATS of football for two decades.
And social media ignited with talk of a link-up of legends after claims the French champions are willing to sell "fed-up" strike star Mbappe.
Many fans believe Ronaldo replacing him at PSG in January would be the perfect solution.
It's claimed the big-spending Parisiens won't let Mbappe go to Real Madrid and would prefer he went to Liverpool.
The speculation left supporters posting comments like: "Ronaldo to link up with Messi at PSG in January. Let's go."
AC Milan vs Chelsea TONIGHT
Chelsea travel to the San Siro as they look to push for qualification from Group E.
The 3-0 victory over AC Milan at Stamford Bridge could prove to have been the turning point for the Blues as Graham Potter registered his first Champions League win.
The victory moved Chelsea up to second, sitting on four points, just one behind RB Salzburg.
With Milan away, Dinamo Zagreb at home and Salzburg away to come, Potter will be hoping that he can secure qualification from the group and a victory in Italy will certainly help Chelsea in their pursuit for European glory.

Ronaldo's crown will be tough to knock off
Man City goal phenom Erling Haaland is MILES ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo's club goals tally at 22 – but he'll have to pick up the pace to beat him by the time he turns 37, writes Joshua Mbu.
Haaland has scored an incredible 155 club goals in his short career, with 20 of those coming in the first few months of the 2022/23 season for Man City.
The 22-year-old has scored 15 Premier League goals in nine games and five in three in the Champions League.
By the time Ronaldo was Haaland's age, playing for Manchester United in the early 2000s, the Portugal ace only had 82 goals.
That's 73 strikes short of the Norway superstar.
But Ronaldo would, of course, pick up his goal-scoring in his mid-to-late 20s, impressively hitting 50+ goals in six consecutive seasons between the age of 25 and 30.
Haaland would have to pick up the pace for the next 15 years to match CR7's incredible feat.
The young striker would have to net 45 goals-a-season at club level to match Ronaldo by the time he turns 37.
At his current rate, he's expected to hit just north of the 600-goal mark.
United want to set the Tone
Brentford are set to offer Ivan Toney a new contract to ward off interest from Manchester United.
The Bees striker is enjoying a fine season, having hit six goals in nine Premier League games.
And the penalty expert even earned a call-up to the England squad – although he failed to feature for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.
Toney’s form has again caught the attention of those at Old Trafford, who are toying with making a January bid.
But Brentford won’t give up their star without a fight, and are now willing to extend the forward’s deal beyond 2025 with bumper new terms.
Toney has not previously been offered a new deal since joining the Middlesex club in 2020.
Kane shrugs off Bayern links
Harry Kane has once again committed his future to Tottenham following the re-emergence of links with Bayern Munich.
The Spurs striker has been busy preparing to face another Bundesliga side in Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow, and was asked about the speculation of a summer move to the German giants.
"I'm focused on Tottenham Hotspur and trying to do my best for a top, top club," the England captain stated.
"All my focus is on Tottenham and trying to win with them."
Ronaldo’s 700th goal celeb explained
Cristiano Ronaldo’s well-struck winner at Everton will enter the history books for being the 700th club goal of the Portuguese legend’s career.
But the celebrations that immediately followed left some fans scratching their heads.
Having wheeled away, rather than his trademark ‘siu!’ celebration, the 37-year-old forward suddenly stood still, closed his eyes and folded his hands across his chest.
He was quickly joined by Antony, who perfected the same pose.
Manchester United’s media team have subsequently explained that the stance was a self-deprecating act, mocking the position that Ronaldo takes when he fall asleep while travelling with the squad.
It’s understood to be a pose that has caused much amusement among the rest of the United players.
Mbappe wants out of PSG
Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave this coming January – despite signing a bumper new deal with the French champions in May.
Mario Cortegana suggests that the superstar's relationship with those at PSG has completely broken down.
The 23-year-old forward is supposedly disillusioned by a series of unfulfilled promises in Paris, and now admits he made a mistake in extending his contract at the Parc des Princes.
Indeed, the French international is said to have asked to leave back in July, but was only offered Liverpool as an option – and not his preferred destination of Real Madrid.
It's a problem that looks unlikely to be resolved though as PSG are willing to let Mbappe leave to anyone but Los Blancos.
Any good will between the two clubs – and respective presidents Nasser Al Khelaifi and Florentino Perez – has completely evaporated following the Super League saga and their dealings over Mbappe.
Qatar too soon for Ramsdale
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale does not expect to play at next month’s World Cup – unless something dramatic befalls Jordan Pickford in the coming weeks.
The 24-year-old stopper hopes to be on the plane to Qatar, but believes this tournament has come too soon for him to challenge for the England number one spot.
Discussing his chances on the Yours, Mine, Away podcast, he admitted: “I think the World Cup personally is six months too soon for me to really challenge, and I’ve said this a few times.
“It’s not really for people to go: ‘Oh no, you should be number one’. I’m being realistic, I’ve played three times for England with a World Cup coming in six weeks. I’m not really going to play.
“But that’s not me throwing the towel in. I’m fighting to be that starting goalkeeper. But if I’m not, I’ll support whoever is the best that I can.”
The Gunners goalie is in contention with the likes of Nick Pope and Dean Henderson to be named as one of Pickford’s back-ups.
Barca want Blues midfield duo
Barcelona are preparing to raid Chelsea once again by snapping up midfielders N'Golo Kante and Jorginho on free transfers at the end of the season.
Nizaar Kinsella in the Evening Standard reports that the LaLiga giants are interested in bringing both players to the Nou Camp when their contracts at Stamford Bridge expire in June.
Both players would prefer to remain with the Londoners, but it seems the Blues are willing to allow them to depart as part of a plan to reduce their mammoth wage bill.
Kante has supposedly been offered a new deal by Chelsea but at reduced terms from his current £290,000-per-week contract and for a shorter timeframe than he hoped.
The 31-year-old has been a target for Paris Saint-Germain while Arsenal are said not be interested despite speculation to the contrary.
Kane and Kulusevski in Tottenham training
It's been a 24 hours to forget for Liverpool, but it's all o-K at Tottenham training.
The London club have been boosted by the return of Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski as they prepare for their Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow evening.
Kane has taken part with the group despite limping out late on in the win at Brighton on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Kulusevski is back in contention after missing three games since picking up a muscle injury during the international break.
Also back after injury are Lucas Moura and Japhet Tanganga.
