“Let’s begin with news from the T20 World cup as India pulled off a sensational four-wicket win against Pakistan on Sunday. Chasing a target of 160, India was in deep trouble at 31/4 after the PowerPlay. However, Virat Kohli, scored an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls to help his team cross the finishing line in a thrilling encounter.
Till the start of the 19th over, India hadn’t hit a six against the formidable Pakistan pacers. Against the best bowler on the day, Haris Rauf, it was unlikely that India would change that unusual trend. The first four balls didn’t even see a boundary and then on the final two balls, Virat Kohli smoked two sixes to turn the match in India’s favour.”
“Virat Kohli starred with an undefeated 82 as India defeated Pakistan in a last-over thriller in Melbourne on Sunday. Kohli hit 6 fours and 4 sixes in an innings that harkened back to his most industrious period in T20 cricket.
After the match, he said, “”It’s just instinctively I saw it, told myself to stay still. The one at long-on was unexpected, it was a back-of-a-length slower ball. and the next one, I just swung my bat at it and it swung over my fine leg. Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be.”
Kohli also said that this inning was better than the 82 he scored against Australia in Mohali, in 2016, and then thanked the fans before signing off.”
“Hardik Pandya turned emotional, recalling how his late father moved cities to fulfil a young boy’s cricketing dreams after beating Pakistan.
If Virat Kohli stole the limelight with his incredible knock, star all-rounder Hardik, who scored 40 runs was the perfect ally as the team recovered from a woeful start to emerge victorious.
In a conversation with Star Sports, Hardik said, “I was only thinking about my dad. I have not cried about my dad. I love my son, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to do for him what my dad did for me. He moved cities for a six-and-a-half-year-old boy’s dreams without knowing I’d get to where I am today. So this is for him,” “
“In some football news,
Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Manchester United “has to end” as soon as possible, according to the club’s former defender Gary Neville.
The Portuguese forward was left out of the squad for Saturday’s draw at Chelsea in the Premier League after his petulant reaction to being an unused substitute in midweek against Tottenham Hotspur. With United showing encouraging signs of progress under Ten Hag, Neville believes the Ronaldo situation must be resolved.
Talking to Sky Sports, Neville said, “Cristiano Ronaldo is going to have to go somewhere else and play every week because he can’t accept being on the bench. End it this week or create a truce to get to the World Cup and then end it.”” “
“Middlesbrough has appointed ex-Manchester United caretaker Michael Carrick as their new manager, the second-tier Championship club said on Monday as the former midfielder landed his first role as a permanent boss.
Carrick left United in December last year having taken temporary charge following the sacking of Norwegian manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 41-year-old former England international replaces Chris Wilder who was sacked earlier this month when the club were in the bottom three.
In a statement, Carrick said, “Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year-old boy, so it’s a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach,”
Carrick has played for clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham during his playing career, “
“Meanwhile,
Newcastle United produced their biggest result of an already impressive season with a deserved 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur to move into the Premier League’s top four on Sunday.
First-half goals by Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron — both aided by mistakes from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris — put Newcastle in control after Tottenham had started brightly. Wilson chipped the opener into an unguarded net after 31 minutes and Almiron scored from a tight angle in the 40th. Harry Kane’s 10th league goal of the season early in the second half suggested third-placed Tottenham could mount a comeback, but they huffed and puffed without much quality as Newcastle held firm to claim the three points.”
“Lastly, in some tennis news,
American Jessica Pegula captured her first WTA 1000 crown with a 6-2 6-3 win over Maria Sakkari in the Guadalajara Open final on Sunday.
The third seed beat four Grand Slam champions en route to the final, where she needed only 70 minutes to beat Sakkari.
Pegula, who beat major winners Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, Bianca Andreescu and Elena Rybakina in the earlier rounds said, “All the people I beat, my draw to get here in my opinion was honestly the toughest out of everybody,”
It was Pegula’s 41st match victory in WTA main draws this year, with only world number one Iga Swiatek (62) and the second-ranked Ons Jabeur (46) winning more. “

“Let’s begin this bulletin with news from the T20 World Cup.
Muhammad Waseem came up with an all-around show as UAE scripted their first-ever T20 World Cup win, defeating Namibia by seven runs in the concluding group A match.
Courtesy of UAE’s win, the Netherlands qualified for the Super 12 from Group A, along with Sri Lanka, while Namibia, who were in the reckoning before the match, got also eliminated. UAE was already eliminated after Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands by 16 runs earlier in the day. Chasing 149 for a win on a two-paced pitch, Namibia lost half their side inside 10 overs and it was then left to the seasoned David Wiese to steer their ship, but he was dismissed by Waseem.”
“Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar said that India can fit both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI if Hardik Pandya plays as the fifth bowler in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma-led India will open their account against Pakistan in Melbourne on Sunday.
Gavaskar said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Live’, “It’s just that maybe, if they decide to go with six bowlers, with Hardik Pandya being the sixth bowler, then Pant may not be able to find a place. They would certainly want a left-hander in the middle, but looking at the top four, who are in such good form, you sometimes say to yourself, ‘How many overs Rishabh Pant is going to get in?”””
“Newly elected BCCI president Roger Binny on Thursday reiterated that there was a pressing need to address players getting injured frequently, saying “you can’t have a Jasprit Bumrah breaking down 10 days before the World Cup”.
Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a back injury three days before the Indian team was to fly out for Australia. Ultimately, Mohammed Shami was announced as the replacement.
Binny also touched upon this topic after taking charge as the BCCI chief on Tuesday. “We need to address why and how are players are getting injured so badly. We need to address why they are breaking down so easily. Not just now but also in the last four-five years,””
“Moving on to some football news from the Indian Super League, East Bengal snapped their winless run against NorthEast United with a comfortable 3-1 victory at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Thursday.
A first-half goal from Cleiton Silva (11th minute) and second-half strikes from Charis Kyriakou (53rd) and Jordan O’Doherty (84th) ensured the three points for East Bengal, before Matt Doherty’s consolation goal (90+2) opened NorthEast United’s goal account for the season.
It took a while for the two teams to find their rhythm with the game’s first real chance coming in the 10th minute when Cleiton Silva smashed a volley from the range at NorthEast United FC’s goal, but Silva didn’t have to wait long to get his goal.”
“Wolverhampton Wanderers caretaker manager Steve Davis will remain in charge of the team until the end of the year after taking over from Bruno Lage, the Premier League club said on Thursday.
Davis has guided the Wolves to one victory in three league games and they are 18th in the standings with nine points from 11 matches.
Wolves said in a statement, “The move provides continuity and stability within the first-team group until a permanent head coach is appointed,”
Wolves were linked with former Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui and Queens Park Rangers head coach Michael Beale but both reportedly turned down the chance to manage at Molineux. (Molino)
Wolves are currently 18th in the Premier League table with 9 points. “
“Meanwhile,
The Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United saga took a dramatic turn on Thursday when the club announced in an official statement that the Portuguese talisman will not be a part of the squad for Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea.
The club’s official statement read. “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture,”
Earlier, a report from The Athletic claimed that the Portugal international had refused to come on as a substitute in United’s midweek fixture against Tottenham and it is now expected that he will be made to train alone.

“Lastly,
Red Bull’s double world champion Max Verstappen can equal a Formula One record in Sunday’s U.S. Grand Prix (Grand Pri) in Austin, Texas, and officially end Mercedes’ unprecedented run of eight constructors’ titles in a row.
Verstappen, last year’s winner at the Circuit of the Americas, needs one more victory to join German greats Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel as the only drivers to have racked up 13 wins in a single season. At the same time, Red Bull can clinch its first constructors’ championship since 2013. That would be the team’s first title double since 2013 when Vettel saw out the V8 era with his fourth and final crown before the switch to the V6 turbo hybrids”
