Dean Smith has provided an injury update ahead of Norwich City’s crunch clash with promotion rivals Sheffield United this weekend.

Despite concerns over the fitness of Josh Sargent, the American will be available for selection on Saturday despite a half-time substitution in the defeat to Luton Town midweek.
However, Kieran Dowell has not returned to training just yet, with the Canaries’ boss confirming the midfielder is suffering from illness.
Dowell missed the Hatters’ loss on Tuesday having been removed from the starting lineup last minute with a chest injury.
Left-back Dimi Giannoulis is also unlikely to be back in the starting lineup this weekend despite making his comeback from a three-month layoff off the bench against Luton.

However, don’t expect to see Andrew Omobamidele until after the World Cup, with an ankle injury causing his absence.
The Norwich manager also provided updates on Sam Byram, Lungi Sorensen and Adam Idah, who also won’t be featuring against the Blades.
“Kieran Dowell has laryngitis but other than that everyone else has been training,” said Smith, via the club’s official website.

“Sargent’s fine, he’s training today.
“It would be a push to start [Giannoulis].
“He’s been out a long time, since the Wigan game, the first home game of the season.
“I’ve not faced a situation like this where we’ve had 15 games of a season and I’ve lost five players who can play left back.

“It’s a nasty looking ankle at the moment but [Omobamidele] should be back after the World Cup.
“Sam [Byram] is back on the grass, Lungi [Sorensen] will be training during the World Cup and Adam Idah, we’ll look to get him back training as well.”
Smith’s side have lost their last three league games in a row, which has seen them slip to 6th in the Championship table in recent weeks.
But United have suffered a poor run of their own going into this weekend, so both clubs will be looking to make up lost ground at the top of the standings.

The Verdict
Considering how important Sargent’s goals have been this season, his lack of serious injury will be a relief to Smith.
The return of Giannoulis is also a big positive, especially amid all these other injury concerns.
It has been a difficult period for the team, with results also taking a nosedive with all these absences.

The pressure is mounting on Smith, and a win this weekend could really help him tide over the Norwich supporters in a time of need.
