Dean Smith issues injury update on Norwich City top scorer ahead of Championship clash vs QPR – Norfolk Live

Dean Smith has delivered his Norwich City team news ahead of Wednesday night’s Championship showdown against promotion rivals Queen’s Park Rangers at Carrow Road
Dean Smith has confirmed that Norwich City top scorer Josh Sargent will not return from injury to face Queens Park Rangers this week.
The American international was sidelined for Saturday’s 3-1 win against Stoke City due to a calf strain. Sargent has scored eight goals in 17 appearances this season but could return for the weekend trip to Rotherham United alongside left-back Dimitris Giannoulis who is currently out with a rib injury.
“Not for tomorrow,” Smith confirmed ahead of Wednesday night’s clash against QPR. “We’re more than hopeful for him and Giannoulis on Saturday. They should be okay for Saturday but won’t make tomorrow.”

Norwich will have Kenny McLean back in the squad after the Scotland international served his three-match ban for a red card in the 1-0 defeat against Luton Town.
In McLean’s absence, Isaac Hayden made his first Norwich start after missing the first few months of the season due to a knee injury. The Newcastle United loanee featured in all three games against Sheffield United, Burnley and Stoke City but Smith is pleased to have more midfield options available.
He said: “It’s good to have Ken back after three games. Three games in a week was a tough ask for Isaac in all honesty and he needed to come off after 60 when he did. We’re in a better position in terms of the players we can choose from at the moment.”
Smith also gave an update on striker Adam Idah who has played just six minutes in the Championship. The Republic of Ireland international suffered a knee injury in February earlier this year that ended his 2021/22 season in the Premier League.
Idah returned in August for substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth and the Championship fixture away at Birmingham City. The 21-year-old underwent surgery in September and is expected to return after the World Cup.
Ireland team-mate Andrew Omobamidele is also expected to return from an ankle injury after the World Cup break. Jonathan Rowe (shin) and Jacob Sorensen (foot) remain out.
