Crystal Palace: Joachim Andersen in contention to face Leeds –

  • October 8, 2022

Crystal Palace host Leeds United at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon in an important clash for the Eagles, who are currently 17th in the Premier League table.

However, a new injury update has emerged which could provide a huge boost for Patrick Vieira.
The Palace manager took to his pre-match press conference to give an update on Joachim Andersen’s recovery progress and revealed that the defender could be in contention to start against the Whites on Sunday.
Vieira told the media: “Joachim Andersen trained with the team the last couple of days – it’s looking good.”

It is really good news that Andersen could potentially return to face Leeds this weekend, as obtaining a good result at Selhurst Park is essential for Palace.
The Eagles currently match Wolves on six points, and if they don’t take all three points from their game this weekend, depending on the Old Gold’s result against Chelsea today, Vieira’s team could be in the relegation zone by Sunday night.
As a result, the potential for Andersen to reprise his role in the back line would be a huge boost for Vieira, as the Dane has been a standout performer this season already for the Eagles and is currently the highest-rated player in the squad according to SofaScore.
The 26-year-old has had an impressive output in the team over his six Premier League appearances, scoring one goal and averaging 1.5 interceptions, 1.7 tackles and a whopping 9.8 clearances per game, while also winning 71% of his duels and tallying a 91% pass completion rate in his own half.

Andersen has been the recipient of high praise for his contributions and presence in the team, with the Palace manager hailing the Denmark defender as “massively important” to the team since he joined the south London club last summer.
With that being said, the worst thing that Vieira could do is bring back the defender too early, only for him to lose all of his recovery progress. However, the 26-year-old would almost certainly make a huge difference in the team if he is fit and available for the clash against Jesse Marsch’s side on Sunday.
