Collingwood has today farewelled Brodie Grundy in a trade with the Melbourne Football Club.

The Club receives pick 27 in the upcoming 2022 AFL National Draft in exchange for Grundy.

The 28-year-old was drafted to the Pies at pick 18 in 2012 and made his debut the following year.

Across 10 seasons, the two-time All Australian ruck played 177 games for Collingwood and kicked 60 goals.

Grundy is recognised for his contribution to the Club on and off the field including the significant and meaningful work of Do Better and being an instrumental part of the Club’s community programs.

This year Grundy was unfortunate on the injury front and was held to only six matches. In Collingwood’s Round Six Anzac Day match against Essendon, Grundy sustained a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury in a ruck contest, before fracturing his ankle in his return match in the VFL in August.

Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright thanked Grundy for his contribution to Collingwood.

“We thank Brodie for his great contribution to our football club over the past decade,” Wright said.

“Brodie has been an outstanding club person in his time with Collingwood and he should be commended for his professionalism and the support he’s shown to his teammates despite facing his own injury challenges this season.

“We have remained in open and honest discussions with Brodie for some time now around his future – he is a quality person and leaves our football program with everyone wishing him all the very best.

“While decision-making relating to list management can be difficult, we have a duty to make decisions that best positions our Club moving forward.”
