Brighton vs Chelsea press conference: Potter provides injury update as defender remains sidelined – Chelsea FC

  • October 29, 2022

Graham Potter has reported no new injury concerns ahead of our Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Blues boss was speaking at his customary pre-match briefing with the media ahead of our visit to the South Coast, with Chelsea aiming to extend our unbeaten run under the head coach to 10 matches.
There are three long-term injury absentees for the game, while one defender is set to remain absent.

Our midweek win in Salzburg brought three Champions League points but thankfully no further injury issues, with Mateo Kovacic’s early withdrawal ultimately not proving a concern.
‘We’re pretty much the same as Salzburg,’ said Potter. ‘Mateo has no problem with his calf, it was more fatigue.’
Koulibaly has missed our past two matches and is unlikely to be back in time for this weekend’s Premier League assignment.
‘Koulibaly has an outside chance for Wednesday but not tomorrow,’ reported Potter.

This week has also seen the appointment of Laurence Stewart in a new position as technical director to focus on football globally and Potter welcomed the addition of the man from AS Monaco.
‘It’s positive and good news,’ he added.
‘Obviously I’ve been focusing on the eight games in October and the club are responsible for the appointment but I’m looking forward to working with him and supporting the role.’
Reece James, Wesley Fofana and N’Golo Kante are the three long-term injury absentees, with Potter previously reporting that the trio were unlikely to feature before the World Cup break.
James was recently ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury and Potter said recently: ‘He’s in a brace for probably four weeks.’
Meanwhile, Kante has undergone an operation on the hamstring injury that has kept him out since August. Fofana remains sidelined with the knee injury he suffered in our home game against AC Milan.
Brighton’s Jakub Moder has been sidelined until the new year with a knee problem of his own and there are also doubts over Adam Lallana and Joel Veltman. Japanese international Kaoru Mitoma is expected to miss out.
