Auburn News: Igbinoghene has game winning interception for Dolphins – Auburn Wire

  • October 25, 2022

A weekend has come and gone without Auburn football and it is once again game week for the Tigers.
But while the football team may have been on a bye, several other programs had important weekends.
Nobody had a bigger game than former Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene who sealed a win for the Miami Dolphins with an interception.
The soccer team played LSU to a 0-0 draw and will now turn their attention to Alabama for their regular-season finale. The softball program came from behind to beat Auburn University at Montgomery to end their fall season with a win.
It wasn’t all good news on the Plains though. As former Tiger Josh Donaldson and the New York Yankees were eliminated by the Houston Astros in the ALCS.

Noah Igbinoghene is starting to make the impact the Dolphins hoped he would when they drafted him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
With the Dolphins clinging to a 16-10 lead and the Pittsburgh Steelers threatening to score, he made the biggest play of his career so far.
He was able to jump in front of Kenny Pickett’s pass at the goal line and tap his feet for the game-winning interception with just 25 seconds left to play.

Auburn softball played from behind Sunday but managed to pull out the 11-9 victory against Auburn University at Montgomery.
The Tigers allowed a run in the second inning and did not manage a hit until the fifth inning when Jessie Blaine led it off with a double. Auburn managed to take a 2-1 lead on a groundout from Abbey Smith later in the inning.
Aspyn Godwin gave the Tigers a 6-2 lead and some needed breathing room with a grand slap to cap the inning off.
Sydney Cox led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBI.
Maddie Penta was the Tiger’s top pitcher. She struck out seven of the 12 batters she faced and allowed one run in three innings of work.

Auburn’s defense had another great performance as the Tigers played LSU to a 0-0 tie Sunday at the LSU Soccer Complex.
“We played a great game,” head coach Karen Hoppa said. “Our defense was outstanding to earn a shutout on the road against a really good LSU team, and our offense was really dangerous. Now, it all comes down to the biggest rivalry in sports on Thursday for the Iron Bowl of soccer.”
LSU managed just two shots on goal which Maddie Phohaska was able to corral to force Auburn’s seventh-straight shutout of LSU.
Auburn (6-5-6, 2-5-2) will host Alabama Thursday in their final game of the regular season. The game is set to start at 7:30 CT and will be on the SEC Network.

Josh Donaldson and the New York Yankee’s disappointing ALCS performance came to a close Sunday night with the Houston Astros winning 6-5 to complete the sweep.
Donaldson, a former Auburn Tiger, had a rough close to the season. He went 1-for-13 with 10 strikeouts in the four games.
