Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to tie William Saliba down to a new contract urgently to fend off interest from the likes of Barcelona.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the longer the club takes “the more money it is going to cost them.”
Saliba has established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet since returning from a loan spell at Marseille in the summer.
As quoted by Football.London (7 October), Mikel Arteta was coy when quizzed on contract talks with the centre-half.
The club are said to have a 12 month extension clause in Saliba’s current deal, which runs at the end of June 2024.
According to Fabrizio Romano (3 October), Barcelona were interested in Saliba during the summer transfer window.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest, Campbell said: “Arsenal need to negotiate quicker.
“At the end of the day, William Saliba did really well on loan. He has taken that confidence into the new season. He is proving to be the difference for us at the back.
“The longer Arsenal take to negotiate this deal the more money it is going to cost them. He is putting more zeros on.
“The club know what they need to do. It is something that will get sorted out I’m sure. Saliba should be at Arsenal for the next five to 10 years.
“As a young centre-half, they do not come better than him. They need to sort out this new contract. We need a new contract to keep Barcelona well away.”
