WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Burke County High School head football coach Eric Parker is in a hospital after collapsing during an away game in Savannah.
Parker will remain in the hospital for the next few days.
He collapsed as the football team was playing Wayne County on Monday. Wayne County won 17 to 16 in overtime.
We reached out to Capt. Jimmy Wylds with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, who says Parker was rushed to a nearby hospital. We also reached out to a spokesperson for the school district for more information.
“Thanks to God and the quick actions of our athletic trainer and the Wayne County Medical personnel, he is alert and doing well,” said Parker’s wife, Rashann.
The Parker family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support, the Burke County School System said in a statement.
While this is still developing, our thoughts and hearts are with Parker and the Burke County community.
