Afghanistan vs Ireland T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Match Highlights – CNBCTV18

  • October 28, 2022

Follow the highlights from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter between Afghanistan and Ireland played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, October 28.
All eyes now on the England vs Australia encounter which is scheduled to start at 1:30 PM IST at the same venue today. Let's hope the rains stop by then. The ground will also need some time to soak up the water after this extended shower.
How Group 1 Stands: Well this doesn't do Afghanistan any favours as they remain bottom of the group due to a poor Net Run Rate. However, Ireland surge up to second spot.
Check out the table here
Andy Balbirnie (Ireland Captain): Very disappointing. We'd played good cricket and were looking forward to this. Can't do much about the weather. We struggled with the West Indies facing Sri Lanka. We tried to back up the win, unlike before, after the England game and turn up today but couldn't. (What's next?) We will fly up tomorrow. It'll be like a different country up in Brisbane. We want to push the champions. Lots of things happening, so it's difficult. After the last time, (On texts from home after the last game) They always text when there are wins but none when there aren't but hopefully the support will grow in the future.
Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan Captain): Very disappointed to be not playing at such an amazing ground. Me and Rash (Rashid) played a lot of BBL games here, but most of the players are waiting to play here.. But it's not in our hands and we look forward to the upcoming games. The preparation was really good, we learned a lot from our first game against England and worked on our particular mistakes. We were fully ready for these 2 games, but unfortunately we did not get to play. The plan was to put score on the board and bring the spinners into the game during the chase, in the first game also we did few mistakes which is why we couldn't get to the 140-150 score. We watched last 2 games, it was a close game between Zimbabwe and Pakistan. Zimbabwe played really well and fought till the last ball, all the teams are trying to win some games in the World Cup. From last five years we (me and Rashid) played Big Bash here and we share all the experience with our team members and also talk about how to bat and bowl in Australia. User the bigger boundaries as a bowler, and as a batsman you can't wait for the ball, you hit the ball here and you need to take that attacking approach as a batsman.
Match Abandoned!
The inevitable has happened. With the rains refusing to stop the Umpires are forced to abandone the game with points shared between both teams. That means Afghanistan and Ireland walk away with a point each.
Still no good news from Melbourne. Remember, Australia vs England is to be played at the same venue today.
Well the rains have returned at the MCG and the covers are back on. It's not looking good at the moment as Afghanistan are facing the possibility of back-to-back washouts.
UPDATE: We're going to have a ground inpsection in 45 mins. The Umpires will look at the entire field and then deem whether it's safe to go ahead with the game. This means it's highly likely we're going to have a shorter contest with overs lost.
Finally some good news. The rains have taken a break for the moment and the covers are now being taken off. The Umpires still have to inspect the field and take a call based on the wet outfield but we'll keep you posted.
UPDATE: The Toss will be delayed at Melbourne as further light showers have seen the covers come back on for a bit. Stay tuned as we keep you updated with the latest news from the MCG.
