Talking the business of sports
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge went hitless in a 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday and thus remains on 61 home runs for the season. As such, he also remains tied with former Yankee Roger Maris, who hit 61 in 1961, for the all-time single-season American League home run record.
Most single-season home runs, American League
T1. Aaron Judge, 61, 2022
T1. Roger Maris, 61, 1961
3. Babe Ruth, 60, 1927
T4. Hank Greenberg, 58, 1938
T4. Jimmie Foxx, 58, 1932
6. Alex Rodriguez, 57, 2002
In all, Judge went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts, which makes for the first time since Aug. 28 that Judge has struck out three or more times in a game. Against the Orioles on Sunday, Judge was presented with multiple pitches that he seemed capable of driving, but he swung a bit under the ball each time. At present, he’s gone 11 straight plate appearances without putting a ball in play. Judge, however, did draw a walk in the fifth inning, which means he’s now reached base in 30 straight games. According to Katie Strang, that’s the longest on-base streak in the AL this season.
As for Judge’s Triple Crown bid, his 0 for 3 dropped his average for the season to .311. Judge came into Sunday trailing Luis Arreaz, who didn’t play Sunday and remains at .315. Judge maintains comfortable leads in RBI and home runs.
Sunday marked the Yankees’ final home game of the regular season, and to conclude the regular season they’ll play a four-game road series against the Texas Rangers that starts Monday and includes a Tuesday doubleheader. Assuming Judge is able to play both ends of that doubleheader, he has four games to hit No. 62 and break the tie with Maris.

Marinaccio said he’s been dealing with shin soreness since July. It comes and goes and all tests were clean earlier in the season. He will have additional tests tomorrow in NYC and expects to join the team in Texas (as long as tests don’t reveal anything alarming) #yankees

According to Aaron Boone… Ron Marinaccio is dealing with a shin issue #yankees
As ruminated, Marinaccio has a sore shin. Yankees removed him to be cautious. That’a a relief for Yankees that it’s not an arm-related issue.
