Alan Hutton has tipped Djed Spence to leave Tottenham on loan in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Scotland defender said the 21-year-old is “too good” not to be playing regularly.
Spence was omitted from the matchday squad that won 6-2 against Leicester City on Saturday (17 September).
The wing-back has just one minute of competitive action to his name since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer.
Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Ivan Perisic all appear to be ahead of the England under-21 international in the pecking order.
Football.London‘s Alasadair Gold claimed (21 September) Antonio Conte does believe Spence is ready to be a first-team regular yet.
Exclusive transfer news:
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Spence’s situation, Hutton said: “It is a weird one.
“When Spence signed, I thought he was a great talent. He was brilliant at Nottingham Forest. I thought he was ready for the Premier League.
“But then you hear Antonio Conte coming out and saying it was not his signing, it was a club signing and one for the future.
“It has not gone to plan for Spence which is a shame because he has ability. If this continues towards January he is going to have to look to get out on loan and play. He is too good to sit on the bench.
“You do not want that to effect him moving forward. He will want to be playing week in, week out. If that means going out on loan and coming back a better player so be it.”
In other news, a Tottenham expert has claimed Son Heung-min could be set for a new role after Antonio Conte hint.
