As the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks prepare to take on the Missouri State Bears in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium this weekend, they’re hoping to get a few key contributors back from injury on both sides of the ball. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman provided the latest updates in the injury department Wednesday afternoon.
Running back Dominique Johnson missed the first two games of the season following a knee injury in the Hogs’ final game of the 2021 season. Johnson, who ran for 575 yards and a team-leading seven touchdowns last season, was cleared to play last week and could make his season debut against the Bears.
“I hope so,” Pittman said. “He’s looked good. He’s got the brace off. In all honesty, I think it’ll be up to him if he feels like he’s ready to go. He has been cleared. He’s been cleared actually for the last two weeks. If yesterday was any indication, I would say he would play Saturday, but it’s still up to him on how he feels. I think he’s feeling pretty good.”
A pair of Razorback starters – safety Latavious Brini and tight end Trey Knox – left the Hogs’ Week 2 game against South Carolina with ankle injuries. Both players did return to practice this week and participated fully.
Following Saturday’s game, Pittman announced that All-SEC safety and team captain Jalen Catalon would have shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season after leaving the Hogs’ season-opening game against Cincinnati. Fellow defensive back Myles Slusher also left the Week 1 game with an injury and has not returned to action since, but Pittman believes he could be back soon and has not ruled out the possibility of him playing in Week 3.

“I feel strong about Brini and Knox,” Pittman said. “Slush is still up in the air. So, we’ll see if he’ll be available. He hasn’t done any practicing, so there’s a chance he’ll be available, but we’ll have to see. It’s a day by day deal. We’d kind of have to see today how that works.”
Monday, Pittman also announced that cornerback LaDarrius Bishop would not be available this week. Kickoff between the No. 10 Razorbacks and the Bears is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. (CDT). The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus and ESPN Plus, both of which can be accessed through the ESPN App.
