A decision on whether Manchester United will sign Kevin Trapp is expected today, according to reports. Erik ten Hag is in the market for a goalkeeper to provide competition and back-up to David de Gea and Trapp is one of the targets.
United allowed Dean Henderson to leave the club and join Nottingham Forest on loan earlier in the window. That has left Tom Heaton as the only experienced back-up to No 1 De Gea.
De Gea hasn’t had the best of starts to the season and was at fault for two of Brentford’s goals in the 4-0 loss in west London earlier this month. And Ten Hag is keen to bring in an experienced stopper to give him more options in that position.
Eintracht Frankfurt star Trapp would certainly fit the bill at the age of 32. And German football reporter Christian Falk says a decision on whether United will sign him is expected on Thursday.

Trapp has been Frankfurt’s No 1 since his return to the club from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. But he has admitted hearing rumours other teams are interested is nice to hear.
He said on Monday: “As I said during my first spell at Frankfurt, it’s always nice when rumours like this come out. It’s a nice acknowledgement. But I can’t say anything about it.”
German outlet Sport 1 claims Trapp has been assured of a regular place in the United side if he were to join. But Frankfurt are understandably keen on keeping the keeper who still has two years remaining on his contract.
Trapp is not the only goalkeeper United are targeting before the end of the window. There have been talks over signing Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka.

Goalkeeper is not the only area Ten Hag is looking to recruit in before the September 1 deadline. His top target is Ajax star Antony, a player he knows well from his time in charge of the Dutch club, with at least two offers already rejected.
PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo is also on United’s radar. PSV were knocked out of the Champions League by Rangers at the play-off stage on Wednesday.
They were not going to entertain offers for the 23-year-old until their European fate was sealed. Gakpo can play across the frontline and would soften the blow if Cristiano Ronaldo were to get his wish to leave United.
