Neymar has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as a ‘genius’ after being asked about the Manchester United star. The duo are regarded as two of the best players of their generation as they enter the twilight years of their respective careers. And despite the Paris Saint-Germain star being close to Lionel Messi, he’s still praised the veteran nonetheless.
Manchester United have failed to see the best of Ronaldo this season, with the Portugal international yet to score since the appointment of Erik ten Hag.
But Neymar, when asked about the veteran by DAZN, hailed the Portugal international by labelling him a ‘genius’.
Ronaldo and Neymar have often competed for the games individual awards, with the duo two of the best players on the planet.
And it appears there’s respect between the pair in the wake of Neymar’s comments.
It isn’t the first time the Brazil international has opened up on Ronaldo, with the Samba star saying last year he was on the same path as both Ronaldo and Messi when it comes to becoming football immortality.

He said: “The three athletes that you mentioned (Messi, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic) are reference points.
“I believe that I’m on the same path as them because I take care of myself a lot and I work hard.
“I know that I need my body ready to play at the high level that I demand of myself.
“I’ve just extended my contract up until 2025, so up until then, I have to maintain my physical, technical and tactical level.”
And, in 2018, Neymar admitted he was trying to follow Ronaldo and Messi’s example.

“He has spent the last 10 years at the top, just like Messi, and we all aspire to be as good as them.”
Neymar has been operating at a high level since the beginning of the season, with the PSG star rediscovering his swagger.
He’s scored seven goals from six Ligue 1 matches, while also chipping in with six assists.
And he’ll be hoping to continue his outstanding form when PSG lock horns with Brest on Saturday afternoon (4pm).

And Steve Nicol, speaking about the veteran in the aftermath of the showdown, expressed a belief he’s now starting to look his age.
“I’ll be honest, when you mention the game, the only thing I have in my head is Ronaldo clean through [on goal] and getting caught by two players,” he told ESPN.
“That’s kind of what springs to my mind. And he did have another look.

“He had a couple of other chances, not as good as that one, but there was just something missing.
“That’s what I think about when I think of this game.
“There wasn’t much in it between the two sides, not that many chances in the game.
“But that’s the only thing I can think of. The fact that Ronaldo was clean through and looked every one of those 36, 37 years.”
