Is Kenneth Walker playing on Monday night? Fantasy injury update for Broncos-Seahawks Week 1 Monday Night Football – Sporting News

  • September 11, 2022

It’s usually safe to assume a first-year RB who hasn’t practiced in nearly a month because of a hernia injury will be ruled “out” for Week 1, but leave it to Pete Carroll to keep fantasy football owners checking for updates. Seahawks’ rookie Kenneth Walker III was surprisingly ruled “questionable” ahead of Seattle’s showdown with the Broncos on Monday Night Football, and it’s likely causing some fantasy owners to second guess their Week 1 start ’em, sit ’em decisions. Should they? We’ll break it down.
We’ll continue to update this article with news on Walker up until the official active/inactive report comes out on Monday around 6:45 p.m. ET.
WEEK 1 INJURY UPDATES:

Despite missing practice all week — and, in fact, not practicing at all since mid-August — Walker (hernia) has been ruled “questionable” for Seattle’s Week 1 showdown with the Broncos.

At this point, it would be mildly shocking if Walker was active on Monday. If he is, he doesn’t figure to play much — certainly not enough to consider starting.
WEEK 1 STANDARD FANTASY RANKINGS:

Regardless of Walker’s status, Rashaad Penny should be viewed as a solid RB2 with RB1 upside. We have him ranked 18th among RBs in standard and PPR leagues, but as we saw down the stretch last season when Penny was one of the best backs in fantasy, he’s capable of putting up monster numbers. Seattle’s lackluster offensive outlook is the only thing keeping him from the top 12.

Walker has plenty of long-term upside given Penny’s injury history, but he’s not someone you want to take a chance with this week even if he’s active. He might be worth a dart throw in a DFS tournament just in case he does play more than expected, but those in season-long leagues should keep him firmly planted on their benches, as the only pivot options would be Travis Homer or DeeJay Dallas — both of whom have low floors and low ceilings.
