Potter replaces Thomas Tuchel in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat.
Meanwhile, Wolves are edging closer in completing a sensational deal for former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
The midlands outfit successfully appealed Costa's initial rejected work permit meaning that the Spanish veteran will undergo his medical.
And Newcastle are shockingly in advanced talks to sign former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Full time across the board
Manchester United lost 1-0 in their first Europa League match of the season against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
Sociedad scored the winner with Brais Mendez's penalty-kick on 59 minutes after David Silva's shot bounced off Lisandro Martinez's arm.
West Ham, on the other hand, got their Europa Conference League campaign off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over FCSB at the London Stadium
The Hammers went 1-0 down after 34 minutes with Andrei Cordea's opener.
But the East Londoners turned things around in just five minutes with Jarrod Bowen's penalty-kick in the 69th minute and Emerson Palmieri's strike later on.
Michail Antonio sealed the win after 90 minutes for West Ham
Nottingham Forest pay tribute
Nottingham Forest also paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following news of her death at the age of 96 in Balmoral.
Forest issued the following statement: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"The club would like to send its condolences to all members of the Royal Family at this sad time.
"May she Rest In Peace"
Man Utd 0-1 Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad have opened the scoring against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
And it is Brais Mendez who breaks the deadlock with a penalty-kick after 59 minutes.
Sociedad got the spot-kick after a shot by David Silva bounced off Lisandro Martinez's arm.

Wilfried Zaha blow
Crystal Palace have offered Wilfried Zaha a new contract with their star man in the final year of his deal, reports SunSport’s Jack Rosser.
But it is not clear if Zaha will sign the deal because he will be able to speak to overseas clubs about a free transfer from January.
The Eagles have held talks with the forward's camp for over a year as they try to keep their talisman at Selhurst Park.
Approaches from Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton have been rejected in previous transfer windows.

Premier League clubs paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following the announcement of her death at the age of 96 on Thursday evening.
United shared their "sorrow with the entire nation" in a touching statement.
Arsenal, who held a moment of silence at half-time during their Europa League match against Zurich, announced they will be taking time to mourn and reflect on Her Majesty's incredible life.
Chelsea sent their condolences to the entire Royal Family after the news broke.
Tottenham posted: "Tottenham Hotspur joins the nation in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Club should like to extend its condolences to all members of the Royal Family at this sad time."
Premier League champions Manchester City were also one of the 19 clubs to pay their respects to the Queen and her "exemplary" dedication as well as service
Zurich 1-2 Arsenal
Arsenal's Europa League campaign got off on the right foot as they beat Zurich 2-1 at the AFG Arena.
The Gunners opened the scoring after just 16 minutes with Marquinhos hitting the target on his debut after an assist by Eddie Nketiah.
But the Swiss outfit equalised just one minute before half-time with Mirlind Kryeziu's penalty kick.
But Nketiah and Marquinhos exchanged roles after 62 minutes with the former putting the Gunners back in the lead
Zurich 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal have opened the scoring against Zurich at the AFG Arena.
And it is summer signing Marquinhos scoring on his debut as he hits the top corner after a cross by Eddie Nketiah on 16 minutes.

Fine details of Graham Potter’s Chelsea deal had to be ironed out overnight and into the morning, including a clause which will allow his coaching staff to leave with him.
A compensation package of at least £20million with Brighton was finalised with further payments to cover the loss of coaches Billy Reid, Bruno, Bjorn Hamberg, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts and assistant head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay.
All the aforementioned have been with Potter at both Ostersunds in Sweden and Swansea, except for Bruno and Roberts, in the Championship before they all moved to the Amex.
As the final details were sorted on Thursday morning, the 47-year-old tactician headed back to Brighton to bid farewell

According to The Athletic, Costa has undergone a medical at Wolves ahead of a free transfer.

The former Brighton boss has signed a five-year deal to take over from Thomas Tuchel.
